Language Education Programs: Perspectives on Policies and Practices

Zia Tajeddin and Carol Griffiths

The idea for this book arose from the experience of two former publications: Lessons from good language learners (Griffiths, 2008) and Lessons from good language teachers (Griffiths & Tajeddin, 2020). These books were well received, but there seemed to be something missing, since learners and teachers are all ultimately dependent on the quality of the programmes they are working within. İn turn, programmes are dependent on both the policies which underpin them and the way the policies are realized in practice. This book deals with both of these key areas. It has attempted to explain the importance of sound policies underpinning effective language programmes, and it has also provided examples of specific programmes commonly practised in contemporary language teaching environments. It has reviewed current research and presented original studies, which, although inevitably contextualized, have also considered implications beyond the immediate situation in which the study was conducted. It was hoped that the insights provided might stimulate effective policy decisions and contribute to successful language programmes in the future.
